A Heritage Landmark Restored: JD Wood Revival at The Barracks Inn

A Heritage Landmark in Ancaster, Ontario

In the heart of Ancaster, Ontario, stands The Barracks Inn — a beautifully restored stone building dating back to the early 19th century. Believed to have once been connected to the War of 1812 barracks, this heritage site is an enduring piece of Canadian history.

When the time came for restoration, JD Wood Revival was entrusted with a key role: installing a premium cedar roof and European-style copper gutter system that would preserve both the building’s charm and its structural integrity.

“Projects like this are where tradition meets craftsmanship. Every detail matters when you’re working on a structure with this kind of history.” – JD Wood Revival Team

Blending Function, Beauty, and History

A cedar roof offers unmatched natural beauty, durability, and weather resistance—perfect for Southern Ontario’s climate. Paired with a European-style copper gutter system, the result is both functional and visually striking. Over time, copper develops a natural patina, adding to the building’s timeless aesthetic.

Every shingle and seam was installed with precision, ensuring The Barracks Inn remains protected from the elements for decades to come—without compromising its historic character.

Part of a Rich Heritage Neighborhood

The Barracks Inn isn’t just a single historic site—it’s surrounded by notable landmarks that make Ancaster a destination for history lovers:

Why This Project Matters

Heritage restoration is all about stewardship. By selecting materials that are historically sympathetic yet built to last, JD Wood Revival ensured The Barracks Inn will remain a cornerstone of Ancaster’s history for generations.

For us, every cedar shingle and european gutter was part of a larger story: one where the past is preserved, the present is strengthened, and the future is secured.
