The Challenge: Fighting the “Grand River” Humidity
Cambridge properties, particularly those near the Grand River or in mature, treed neighborhoods, face constant pressure from moisture. Over time, even the highest-quality cedar shingles can begin to “choke” under a layer of moss and debris.
When we arrived at this Cambridge site, the roof was showing classic signs of environmental stress:
Thick Moss Growth: Moss was acting like a sponge, holding water against the wood and inviting rot.
Clogged Waterways: Debris in the keyways (the gaps between shingles) was preventing proper drainage.
Loss of Natural Oils: The cedar was becoming brittle and “greyed out,” making it vulnerable to cracking during the summer heat.
The Solution: The JD Wood Revival Process
Our goal was to take this roof from “tattered” to “brand new” without the massive cost of a full replacement.
Deep Moss Removal: Using our specialized “DeMoss” process, we cleared the organic growth that was trapping moisture.
Strategic Repairs: We swapped out split and curled shingles that were causing “leak points,” restoring the roof’s symmetry.
Revival Oil Application: We finished the project with a deep-penetrating oil treatment. This didn’t just bring back the rich, warm color of the wood—it sealed the shingles against future water penetration.
